#BIGGERTOGETHER
We believe that all young people are born with potential, it is opportunity that is not distributed equally.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of California is the bridge that brings together potential and opportunity through mentorship.
WHO WE ARE:
Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of California works to increase resources and create opportunities that sustain and grow program services at each of our 14 locations that span our 58 counties, from Humboldt to Inland Counties to San Diego.
OUR PURPOSE:
Our purpose is to ignite more caring and connected communities in California.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of California works to increase awareness, resources and create opportunities that sustain and grow mentoring services at each of our 14 local affiliates that span from the Humboldt to San Diego, Inland and Coastal counties. Each of these agencies is dedicated to providing strong, safe and empowering mentoring relationships for at-promise youth and trained volunteers. Together they are committed to mentoring the next workforce, creating avenues for children and youth to succeed emotionally, academically and positively in their communities.
HOW DO WE WORK:
Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of California provides leadership and resources to help build the capacity of our affiliates through a three-pronged approach: Advocacy, Professional Development, and Funding.
Advocacy
We believe in the power of collaboration and collective impact. Across the state, we take on the challenge of educating our local and state public officials, as well as our corporate and community partners, about mentorship as a vehicle for social and economic mobility for youth.
BBBS-CA organizes an annual “Advocacy Day” in Sacramento as an opportunity for agency leaders and board members to share accomplishments and highlights with their elected officials.
Our advocacy efforts support statewide initiatives that promote:
-
Well Being: Social Emotional Health and Learning program
-
Educational Success: Academic Engagement and Improvement
-
Prevention: Breaking the Cycle of Crime
-
College and Career: Building the next workforce
Professional Development
Annually, Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of California partners with affiliates to host a statewide conference that brings together executives, direct service staff, and board members from all our affiliates. These annual convenings, held in person or zoom, offer a variety of trainings, on ranging from program implementation and reporting, technology, to fundraising and board development, to management and human resource trainings. Participants also share best practices that they have determined to be successful.
Fund Development
BBBS-CA connects state and federal funding opportunities to affiliates to apply collective or individually. It will serve as the lead for state funding that would be distributed to local affiliates.
